Eco-Excursión de Cuba

Eco-Excursion de Cuba

Life in Havana

Muevete Puerto Rico presents an ECO EXCURSIÓN DE CUBA! (April 2014, exact dates TBD)

“Please join us as we tour this native land and experience sustainability and culture as an adventure in an untampered community right here in our very own Caribbean waters.

Cuba is one of the top five most sustainable countries in the entire world. Our organization, Muevete Puerto Rico, invites you to learn how they maintain their culture in a way that promotes a natural lifestyle.

Sign up for this amazing Eco-Excursion focusing on the land and the cultural heritage of this most magnificent community. We will be embracing all aspects of the Cuban lifestyle:  food, people, land, music and dance!  You don’t want to miss this!”

– Skai Juice, Coordinator

Since the early 1990’s Cuba has been involved in the most comprehensive conversion from chemical to organic agriculture that any country has yet attempted.  Our program offers an opportunity to learn about Cuba’s sustainable food and agricultural practice from rural cooperatives to the small and large urban gardens that have sprouted up on rooftops and in vacant lots all over Havana.

Cuba has a thriving natural, complementary and bioenergetic health care practice affiliated with the Ministry of Public Health. Because of their focus on wellness, primary care, and universal access, the health indices of the Cuban people are among the highest in the world.

Cuba’s education system too is free, available to all, and enables all children to achieve to their highest ability.

Cuba maintains six internationally recognized Biosphere reserves.  Its protected forests are growing in size and its coral reefs are pristine.

During your time in Cuba, you will meet policy makers and practitioners of agroecology, health care, education and environmental studies in both urban and rural settings and learn about Cuba’s model in the context of its overall policy and practice in environmental protection and sustainable development.

And, as this program takes place during the Old Havana “City in Motion” Dance Festival, there will be ample opportunity to enjoy Cuba’s vibrant cultural scene as well!

This will be a 9 day Cuba program.  The exact dates will be chosen to coincide with the Festival and will be posted as soon as they are announced.

You will find articles and videos on Cuba’s policies and programs in environmental protection and sustainable development here.
